Katy Perry gets back at Elmo

PR Connection #3

Katy Perry was recently featured on Sesame Street to be a “friend” of Elmo. The video showed Perry running around in a reveling top singing a form of her hit song “Hot and Cold”. While the Producers of Sesame Street originally approved the sketch, some parents caught wind of this video and decided it was not proper for their kids to see Perry in such a revealing costume. So the clip was pulled from Sesame Street.

The week following the clip release Perry was scheduled to be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live. Perry ended up in a skit where she was playing a teen librarian. Perry came in wearing a VERY revealing shirt that had Elmo’s face on it. While the skit was funny it did nothing to change the Seasame Street Producers minds. The skit will remanded off the air until further notice.

What’s your opinion? Did Perry go to far?

  1. I don’t think it was an appropriate choice of attire for a children’s show. Clearly, there is a mesh material across her chest, however, there is still nothing left to the imagination. I wonder why they had to pick an outfit that shows all of her cleavage? Plus, it is not only the top but it is a short skirt on it too. In the business professional world, skirts normally have to be knee length and this one is not even close. She does a great job at acting and high energy for kids but clothing options can definitely be changed.

  2. When I first heard about this I didn’t see what the big deal was, in regards to her outfit. I thought she looked adorable for her segment with Elmo, and to be honest I don’t think the children are even paying attention to the clothes celebrities wear on that show. The part that I had a problem with was later Katy Perry went on SNL, and threw it the face of Sesame Street production, even after they stated they were sorry and wanted Katy Perry back on the show. I just feel that she took it to far, and she should have just brushed it off and moved on.

  4. When I first heard about the controversy with Katy Perry on Sesame Street, and then watched the video on youtube. I was pretty surprised that her outfit caused that much of an uproar. I actually thought that the sketch was quite adorable and Perry’s high energy is perfect for kids. The fact that parents made such a big deal about it just blew the issue way out of proportion. I have to say though- it was rude of Perry to come onto SNL as a way to get back at Sesame Street. I agree with them pulling the sketch since parents didn’t agree with it. After all, although Sesame Street is for the kids, the target audience is really the parents who monitor what their children are watching.
